The secret to a good relationship with your horse is training and mutual respect. Let's face it, horses are a lot bigger than us and weigh a heck of a lot more so pussyfooting around with them just doesn't cut it. Not to mention the fact that it is an accident waiting to happen.
Horses need to be taught to respect your space and to obey commands. It's the only way to avoid putting yourself at risk of getting hurt. For instance, a horse that doesn't know it is not allowed to jump on top of you when it gets a fright is a dangerous horse. It doesn't mean to be but if it's natural flight reaction kicks in and YOU haven't taught it that no matter what the circumstances, you are the one in control then you are the one at fault, not the horse.
